The Society of Light and Lighting announced its upcoming webinar with Kaye Preston, Founder of Designers Mind and Kael Gillam, Lighting Designer and contributor to Designers Mind. Founded by Kaye Preston in 2019, Designers Mind is a forum where designers from a variety of backgrounds and specialisms can share their knowledge and experience to raise awareness around mental health and wellbeing. Kaye is an Interior Designer, a WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) and a health coach. She is passionate about design and the role that it can play in overall wellbeing. Kaye’s personal experience led her to setting up Designers Mind, in order to champion the importance of support and knowledge in relation to mental health. Kael is an Architectural Lighting Designer with a background in theatre and psychology. Kael is currently working on strategies for smaller design firms to adopt wellbeing policies alongside her role at Nulty+. The webinar discussion, will cover Kaye’s journey and what led her to set up Designers Mind, the ethos behind it and its goals as an organisation.

Poignantly the webinar shall explore the challenges faced by many working within design and creative industries today, along with the steps that individuals and their employers can take to understand and nurture wellbeing. Also Kael will document her journey into lighting design and her contribution to Designers Mind.

The SLL is keen to raise awareness around the importance of wellbeing and to support existing initiatives, for the benefit of SLL members, the lighting and design communities and beyond. Designers Mind was first introduced to the SLL by Rebecca Hodge, Senior Lighting Designer at Foundry London and a member of the Society’s Marketing and Communications Committee.
