Most people in construction are familiar with Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) cards. It’s the card that provides proof that individuals working on construction sites have the appropriate training and qualifications for the job they do on site. In most cases applicants are required to achieve a recognised construction related qualification (usually an NVQ or SVQ) as well as pass the Construction Industry Training Board’s health, safety and environment test within the last 2 years.

However, not everyone is aware that CSCS also offer cards, known as PQP cards, for members of certain recognised Professional Bodies. The ILP is delighted to announce that affiliates of the Institution can now use their membership to apply for the Professionally Qualified Person (PQP) card.

This is in addition to the Associates, Fellow and Members of the ILP who could already do so.

The cards available to members of the ILP are:

Membership level CSCS cards available
Affiliate PQP card
Associate PQP card
Fellow PQP card
Member PQP card
Student Trainee card

Alan O’Neile, Head of Communications at CSCS said: “This is another great example of the industry working together to improve standards and safety on UK construction sites. The commitment of the ILP to continual professional development supports the objective of the PQP card.”

The PQP card is valid for five years and all applicants must pass the CITB Managers and Professionals Health, Safety and Environment Test.

Tracey White, Chief Executive at the ILP said: “I’m delighted that ILP members who need to work on construction sites will now have a straightforward way to apply for a CSCS card through the ILP’s partnership with CSCS.”

When applying for this card, affiliates of the ILP will need to provide a letter from the ILP confirming their level of membership and eligibility for a PQP card. These letters are available from Karen Suggett, Membership Manager, karen@theilp.org.uk.
