Strategic partnership to provide intelligent lighting solutions for Smart Cities

Tridonic announced today the formation of a strategic partnership with NMB-Minebea-GmbH, which is part of the MinebeaMitsumi group, the major producer of machinery components and electronic devices. The partnership aims to develop intelligent outdoor lighting solutions for Smart Cities.  Since 2015, Paradox Engineering is part of the Japanese Group MinebeaMitsumi, a leading global provider of Electro Mechanics Solutions™ with a notable history and track record of technology excellence.  Paradox Engineering is designing and engineering pioneer technologies to implement unique interoperable and highly scalable network infrastructures for industrial and urban applications. Unique competences in data collection systems, radio design and wireless sensor networks are at the heart of Paradox’s smart excellence.  Thanks to the MinebeaMitsumi group’s vision and innovation capabilities, the group is accelerating its success in the Internet of Things market and developing cutting edge technologies for Smart Lighting, Smart Cities and any other smart environments.

Based on Tridonic’s lighting technology and Paradox Engineering’s revolutionary connectivity platform and applications ecosystem, the partnership aims to provide integrated Smart City services. For this purpose, hardware and software from both partners will be aligned so that they can easily be operated as a single system. The system, which will be based on an open standard and comply with Zhaga/DALI standards, will form a basis for self-commissioning projects as well as for turn-key solutions for cities.

With Smart Urban Network, Paradox Engineering developed a revolutionary connectivity platform and extensive applications ecosystem.

This forms the basis for innovative Smart City services and helps cities solve major urban challenges such as Smart Lighting, Smart Parking and Smart Waste. Tridonic, on the other hand, offers intelligent, efficient and safe outdoor lighting solutions ranging from LED modules and drivers to surge protection devices and sensors. Together, the technology partners will be able to market integrated Smart City applications. The solution will be completely standard-based, compliant with Zhaga/DALI standards and thus fully scalable and open for self-commissioning.

“More and more cities are transforming into Smart Cities using data and the Internet of Things to develop internet-based services. Luminaires offer the perfect infrastructure for these services: Sensors can easily be integrated and transmit the necessary data for network-based applications. However, what has made the development of Smart City services difficult in the past is that all the components of such a system need to be matched and communicate with one another. Together with MinebeaMitsumi and our technology Partner Paradox Engineering we will be able to offer integrated Smart City solutions on an open standard”, explains Thomas Ölz, Vice President Product Management Tridonic.

Jens Richter, Managing Director of NMB-Minebea-GmbH adds: “Light points and integrated sensors can deliver valuable data for a number of Smart City services. To fulfil their purpose, this data, however, needs to be translated into a universal language and integrated into an appropriate software management system. Our integrated solution with Tridonic’s lighting portfolio will be truly flexible and future-proof as we will be committed to open standards and full-scalability. Our joint objective is to help cities solve major urban challenges and needs. For that purpose, we will market a turn-key solution with full flexibility.”
