In these upcoming inspiration session Sabine De Schutter will explain the versatility and potential of lighting in an architectural context. Schutter will take the audience on a journey through the design process of her studio as an independent lighting designer and explains how lighting can be an integral part of the architectural concept.
“Everything we see is reflected light, whether it’s daylight or artificial light. Lighting shapes atmosphere and our visual experience of space. Yet lighting is often considered something functional and only noticed if it is poor, too bright or too dark. In a way, many take lighting in our everyday spaces for granted. In addition, when it comes to decorative lighting, the luminaires are often an additive with the focus on the product where the light effect is forgotten in the design process. This approach ignores both the subtle power and potential of lighting in the experience and perception of architecture.”
