LightingEurope members have been working with the lighting value chain and customers since Dec 2018 when the EU phase out timetable for mercury lamps was voted by member states.

LightingEurope is supporting the EU’s objective for a smooth transition to substitutes and alternative technologies to ensure users understand their options and make the choice that is right for them.

1st September 2021 signals stage 1 of the phaseout – products affected will no longer be placed on the EU market.

1 Sept 2021: T2, T12, R7s >2,700 lm and other halogens, CFL-i
1 Sept 2023: T8 for general lighting & other halogens e.g. G9, G4

Those that are already on the market can still be sold and used- so no need to throw things away prematurely.

LightingEurope is liaising with lighting manufacturers and suppliers globally to help them understand and apply the rules and phase out timetable.
