In collaboration with Bega the ILP launches “How To Be Brilliant” once more.  For lighting students, interns, apprentices and new entrants to the lighting industry looking to engage with inspiring experts who will talk about lighting in a way formal education doesn’t always cover.

Successful senior lighting designers agree to share their time and expertise with students, juniors and new entrants to the profession, to demonstrate things that aren’t always taught on traditional courses and inspired, supported and encouraged the next generation.

Session One – How to be brilliant at telling stories with light – David Gilbey

1st March, 2021 @ 13:00 pm – 14:00 pm GMT

Finding the project narrative and telling stories with light in space is a mindset, a methodology or design approach that enables the lighting designer to look at every project with fresh eyes to provide lighting solutions that touch, engage and inspire.

What is the story? In every project it is different, it could be art, history, location, culture, the people, branding, sustainability….it could just be the architecture, but seeking the soul, the essence of a project elevates the design from treating buildings simply as ‘lego’ bricks or shapes.

It is essential to great design that a holistic approach is taken considering usage, context and surroundings. David will take an inspiring look at conceptual thinking and the power of ideas.

Architects design with a narrative in mind. This event will allow you to relate to that as a lighting designer, and take your design ideas to another level.
