This year, the awards ceremony for the tenth edition of the German Lighting Design Award, with 35 nominations in 13 categories will be held without the physical presence of the almost 500 guests on average who attend the gala event each year.  The organisers have decided to do so due to general covid restrictions.

On the evening of the awards ceremony scheduled for 17 September 2020, the winners will be announced digitally in a complex video format. A team of experienced producers and media professionals have been hired who will record the elements of the evening in the studio.  In addition, the awards ceremony will also be available later and can serve as a reference for sponsors and award winners.  An accompanying chat during the evening will allow the participants to interact.

The deadline for submissions to the German Lighting Design Award 2021 has been extended to 31 October 2020. The tenth German Lighting Design Award Gala is expected to take place in Hanover in June 2021 in its usual form. Forming in Cologne in 2011 at the first German Lighting Design Award ceremony, the event has since developed greatly. With the support of the entire industry, the annual competition for the German Lighting Design Award has established itself with the gala for the award ceremony, and has become a permanent feature of the Lighting Year.

Even after ten years, the competition has not lost momentum: Currently, the jury is on the road again, looking at projects submitted this year by a record 53 offices. The awards ceremony, for which tickets can already be ordered, will then take place on 14 May in Hanover, with plenty of space for a glittering anniversary gala.
