Chexbres, Switzerland, saw the Daylight Academy host a 5-day long summer school to promote international cooperation among scientists, architects and other professionals working on daylight.  Researchers and practitioners from a talented interdisciplinary group in the fields of chronobiology, lighting, psychology, ecology, vision science, ophthalmology, artists and evolutionary medicine set the stage for a very collaborative and enriching discussion ground on light in our environments.

The premise of the event focused on fostering discussion, whilst experiencing and measuring light and colour, and concepts of design and simulation in the built environment.  The delegates used Horace Bénédict de Saussure’s cyanometer (1789) for measuring the colour of the sky to develop an interdisciplinary understanding of measurement and characterisation of light and illumination.
