The tenth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival runs from 2nd December to 23rd January 2022.

Sailing or walking along the canals you can enjoy more than twenty masterpieces celebrating light, favorites and the most inspiring and popular light art from the past nine editions.

The Amsterdam Light Festival has grown over the past decade with 270 artworks, nine exhibitions and more than six million visitors, and has become one of the world’s leading light art festivals. Illuminating the dark winter months against the backdrop of photogenic Amsterdam, the festival connects and enriches residents, and visitors old and new.

The overarching theme this winter is Celebrate Light. This is not only a reference to the festive anniversary, but a nod to togetherness which in some countries we can enjoy once again.  In the eastern part of the city center, over twenty works feature  and were made especially for the festival and subsequently ended up in the museum’s own collection. In recent years these works have been on display all over the world, from London and Athens to Baltimore and Riyadh.

In addition to the highlights, young and emerging talent are delivering special education programs for the seventh year in a row on new light art projects. Under the guidance of curators and technicians, students from Breitner Academy create a new work of light art.

In addition, some 850 Amsterdam elementary school students are following workshops and working on an art installation about child poverty.
